Regal Orienteering Weeekend 2011

4/6/2011

This year once again Queens Birthday Weekend was spent in Auckland running through Woodhill forest doing a bit of Orienteering. Three long distance races were held over the three days of the long weekend in the rain and sunshine. As a bonus, organised by the JWOC team a sprint at Massey University and a Super Series Relay in one of the more technically challenging parts of the forest. Most or New Zealand’s Top Orienteers turned up along with some pretty good Aussies who came over for the Pinestars-Bushrangers test match.

I had a series of Average runs, with consistent orienteering and no big mistakes costing more than 2.5mins. However I wasnt feeling at the top of my physical fitness and it was tough racing against the Auckland orienteering cult in their home terrain which they run on three times a week. I learned some good lessons and I feel im now in a good place to move into some specific training for World Champs which are in just 9 weeks now!

It was good to catch up with the Aussies too, which most of them we will be seeing over in Europe this year!
